Marilyn J. Payne, CPA, provides accounting and consulting services to non-profit organizations in the greater Los Angeles and Orange County Area. She has over twenty five years experience in accounting and auditing for for-profit and non-profit organizations.
Marilyn’s career in public accounting, management positions and consulting, has enabled her to gain expertise in a wide variety of services for her clients. Each client’s needs are unique and each engagement varies based on those needs; from general accounting, evaluating and developing internal controls, financial reporting and audit requirements, to educating employees, management and Board members on fiscal management.
Marilyn started her accounting career working in public accounting in the audit division. She was responsible for overall planning, staff training and supervision, examination of financial statements and government audit reports. During this period she also participated in an international exchange program and worked in Sydney, Australia for two years where she continued her work in the audit division, servicing a variety of for-profit entities.
As a former Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance at the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum Foundation she has had hands-on experience in all financial and accounting transactions; including timely internal financial reporting, annual closing process and audit preparation and audit reports, tax filings and other regulatory reporting along with working directly with numerous Board of Trustees members and committees. She has also provided leadership and direction while serving on numerous strategic planning committees.
Marilyn is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed by the State of California, Board of Accountancy. She is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Marilyn is also a member of the California Association for Non-Profits, Heal the Bay, Aquarium of the Pacific, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Los Angeles County Natural History Museum Foundation.
Marilyn holds a Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and maintains continuing education requirements for her State license in general accounting, non-profit and government organizations through the California Society of CPA’s Education Foundation and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
